So, as most of you guys know, the main reason I started my blog was to take you guys on a journey of finding that dream life we all inspire to obtain – whatever different dreams we all might have.

I got the idea for this project one day in May and I thought to myself – who should I hit up in my network that I, from the outside, believe is living their dream life and actually are successful. I started writing some names down, and Taylor was one of them and on top of the list. I’ve known Taylor for about 5-6 years, from my time living in L.A., and he’s always been super cool and down to earth.. He’s managed to become one of the biggest DJ’s in the world, and doing really well for himself.

So I hit him up and asked him if he wanted to sit down with me for like an hour and answer some questions for my new project. You can find the result right down here

Taylor has been so privileged to be able to live off DJ’ing. He started DJ’ing when he 12 and booked gigs already at the age of 16. One day he got a call for an audition for Justin Bieber to work as his official DJ and got the job, something he calls a matter of being at the right place at the right time.

Taylor took a Masters in business management, which I think is super cool that he wanted something he could fall back on – like he says, the whole point of life is to have back up plans – BUT still decided to follow his dreams and give that 100% of his focus, energy and attention. He knew at age 12 what he wanted to do and he went for it. I mean, a lot of us have dreams about what we want to be when we grow up but very few actually achieve it. He knew he didn’t want to settle for a 9-5 job, so he quit his job at Burger King to focus on DJ’ing. That was a huge risk to take, even if he was just 16 at the time. We need to take risks if we want to go those bigger places. I quit a stable job last year and have thrown myself into different things.

Despite the different titles he possesses, amongst other being named HBCU top 30 under 30 in 2014, this guy is just super humble and always willing to help out where he can. He didn’t hesitate when I asked if he’d be willing to sit down with me and help me out with my project, but simply replied “what can I do to help”.

and that’s a really good question lol. I think I just want to let myself get inspired and hope to get some useful advice and some tools to take with me on my own journey. I think I gained a lot from my talk with Taylor. Here are some of the tools I take with me that I hope you guys can use as well in the pursue of following your dreams and achieving success, whatever that means to you.

1: Write your goals down

One of the things Taylor mentions is that he writes down his goals and things he wants to accomplish. A written goal brings focus and precision and gives you a direction. By writing down your goals you repeat what your goals are and it becomes a powerful reminder that you can use to keep yourself on the right track when things get tough.

Writing down what your dreams are, you have to get very specific in what you want. According to Taylor this can help you to identify the little things that are important to you and sometimes you need to say things out loud to actually understand what it is and get some clarity on what it is we want to manifest.

With Taylor it was how he could become the best DJ, and as he says it’s a process that you just gotta trust. It requires patience – it might take a week, a month, a year – we have no way of knowing because we can’t foresee the future. And man, I’m not great with that patience stuff… BUT I’m willing to give this method a go and see what happens. I’ll get back to you guys with an update ?

2: Speak your goals and dreams into existence

Additionally to writing your goals down, you wanna speak it into existence, as Taylor also says. Speaking things into existence doesn’t mean that things just happen magically. It’s just another method to work with the law of attraction. When you focus on your goals and keep all your attention on them, it will eventually manifest in some way.

I believe we are responsible for bringing both positive and negative influences into our lives. You need to know where to put your focus because it can have a major impact on what happens to you and your life. The law of attraction encourages us to see that we have the freedom to shape our future the way we want. This is a very powerful method that I have come in touch with the past year, year and a half where I’ve experienced results. It’s the idea of turning thoughts into reality eventually.

3: Be self-disciplined

Taylor talks about being his own boss, which has it’s ups and downs. On the plus side you get to decide exactly how your day looks like and how your life plays out. It will for sure give you a freedom and liberty that I find very attractive. The down side, on the other hand, is that you have to be on top of everything and two steps ahead constantly. Taylor says that there have been many times where things have gone south for him, and right there you have a choice to give up or you can keep pushing. When you’re your own boss, you have to have a lot of self-discipline cause no one is going to tell you what to do next if things go wrong. The skill of being self-disciplined everyday is necessary when you’re your own boss.

An important skill you gotta have is learning from your mistakes and using them to your advantage in the future. Every experience and all your mistakes and failures are there to teach us a lesson that we can learn from and force us into being more of who we are. And from there on figure out what our next move will be! When things went down hill for Taylor, he made a decision and hired a new manager and new agent, which turned out to be the best decision for his future.

4: Always think two steps ahead

Even though he’s a world-known DJ, Taylor doesn’t just settle with that; he constantly keeps himself busy with other things too – WeKnowTheDJ and Celebrity DJ, apparel, WeTheBand, co-production on some of Bieber’s tracks.

He’s already a name in DJ world, so why not use that to his own benefit. So starting WeKnowTheDJ or Celebrity DJ is a smart business choice
I think you need to be careful to not remove focus on the biggest and most important things you’ve got going on; however, at the same time it’s essential to have more balls in the air – especially in the entertainment industry. Taylor’s a famous DJ who’s already created a name for himself in the music industry, and he should for sure take advantage of that and use it for his other projects.

if you’re in a position to have a lot of different things going on, right? I’d do the same… well, I am in way doing the same cause I have so many things going on at the same time, but like I say in the interview – I still haven’t found out exactly what makes me tick. One of the things Taylor said that stuck with me was “to acknowledge your talent and your passion”. His passion was DJ’ing so he turned that into a talent and just went from there. I think my problem is that I have too many passions and I haven’t been able to put 100% focus on just one of them and turned that into a living.
But that changes today… I’ll let you guys know soon what my next step will be ?

One thing I will say, and that’s I’ve gotten a lot things to think about from my talk with Taylor and that has just proven that I’m on the right path with this new project ??

Thanks for reading! I hope you guys found it interesting and useful. Feel free to comment and let me know what you think.
